How can I stop armpit sweating?
The most effective way to stop armpit sweating is by injecting a dilute solution of Botox (Botulinum Toxin) into the skin of the armpit. As a very fine needle for the procedure it is almost painless.
Procedure in Brief
- Approximately 20 injections are made in each armpit
- No anaesthetic is required
- Entire process takes 20 minutes
- It can be done at lunchtime and you can return to work afterwards
- Clinical studies show that this treatment reduces the amount of sweating by 80-90%
- Results last between 4-10 months
Facts about Botox
Is Botulinum Toxin safe?
In the armpit, yes it is. There are some rare contraindications which will be discussed at your appointment. It is also best avoided in pregnancy.
Is Botulinum Toxin Expensive?
No, not when you consider the cost of frequent changes of clothing, deodorants etc. The cost of embarrassment and social phobia is also high. For therapeutic use, the cost of Botulinum Toxin treatment is claimable against tax with the MED1 scheme.
Does it hurt?
With tiny 30g needles – thinner than acupuncture needles – it is as close to painless as is possible.
How do I arrange it?
If you have not had Botox before, it is necessary to make an appointment with one of the doctors in the Morehampton Clinic to discuss it, and check that you are a suitable candidate. This first appointment, which usually lasts 30 minutes, does cost €50. We generally prefer not to do a treatment at that time – to give you time to consider – but if you are coming from afar then both can be done together.
